I read that and thought ... "really?"

Posture, counter/positive steering etc is in the course book.

I would disagree, I quite often talk to riders about being too stiff using straight arms locked elbows gripping the handlebars, unable to consciously counter steer. This is particularly true of middle aged riders coming back to biking and buying a litre plus sports bike as their first bike in 20 years. Their beer belly core is unable to support their upper body, they have to lean on the handle bars for support. AS you can guess my associates just love me. :-)

Had one 'born again' who had not ridden for C. 20 years. Sold his previous bike for the usual family/mortgage reasons.

Been made redundant with a good payment, so had ordered a kawasaki 900 sporty job. The nearest I could borrow from the shop for him to use was a K1100RS.

We did all of the control stuff, then went for a bimble on-road. "What do you think of the bike?" I asked.

"Not very fast, is it."

I must have forgotten to show him where the throttle was and how it worked.

I hope he was ok with the kwak. But I fear it could have ended in tears, or embarrassment.

Nearly every rider needs reminding about relaxed arms and posture and anchoring. Also getting the mirrors adjusted properly is another favourite.

Why they need to be able to read the registration plate of the vehicle stopped 5 feet behind them in both mirrors? Then complain they can only see their elbows in the mirrors
