Easy decision on my car front and rear tyres and different sizes. Quite a few years ago I needed a couple of new tyres on a Ford Mondeo put the new ones on the back. Unfortunately as I was skint at the time ( 3 kids in uni) I bought budget tyres. lost the back end on a bend on a very wet road. Its not just the tread depth, that only helps the water escape its also the quality of rubber on the tarmac. These budget tyres were crap ended up costing me more had to replace one front tyre and have the tracking sorted as I ended up smacking the kerb with a front wheel causing it to blow out

Yes you might be right there.

A lot of tyre fitters just assume (wrongly) if it's front wheel drive you need the best tyres there. Just insist: best tyres on the rear - if you feel strongly about it.

Have had the same problem and had to insist "best on the back" and that was despite a notice hanging up in the garage which I referred to them.

A curious thing about Saab 9-5 estates is that no matter how much one tweaks camber etc, the rear tyres always wear on the inside. I reckon I get through twice as many rear tyres as fronts. This has happened with all four 9-5's I've had.
