IAM (Roadsmart) Skills day

Just spent £135 on a half day IAM skills day at Thruxton (open to members and non-members). Was not sure what to expect from a road safety organisation. :?
Absolutely brilliant, not having been on a race circuit before a real eye opener. Systematic throughout, really sorts out the system of car control at much elevated speeds.
Main problem for me was not breaking hard enough where speed was required to be reduced into the chicanes :o
The tuition was brilliant throughout.
Just to make it clear skills days are aimed at those that have never competed in any motorsport. However the amount of track time was great from 9.30 to 12.30 with two of us to one instructor, really good value.

Our cars, didn't know Micra could do 75 in 3rd  all morning as well. Only problem was gearstick centre boss fell out, put it down to poor maintenance/vibration :D

Further to the above, just filled up the Micra
39.5MPG ok I was the slowest there but not bad, some had to refill halfway through the morning with super :D

Caterham generally manages about 20mpg on track (the advantage of no weight). Sharing a garage with a supercharged atom earlier in the year at Snetterton, he was putting in about 20l after every stint!

I didn't know a Micra could do 75 at all! ;) When I learnt to drive in my instructor's Micra, I swear it must've been the fastest moving Micra in the whole of the West Berkshire region at the time!
