I'm bikes and cars and I think I get the reasoning behind what they are doing, make yourself seen and alert everyone to your presence and in short, tell everyone to get the hell out the way. Someone has already posted the SEG method which to me is far more sensible. They don't cause alarm, just hold people back to allow for steady progress. The SEG also did it in central London which I'd imagine is far harder than the motorway these guys are on.

Wouldn't it be great to see how the SEG handled the same drive and see the results?

Yes I agree Maca. The SEG aren't invincible though - there is at least one video I've seen where they crash and I believe it's their fault.

It's a trade-off. SEG probably wouldn't be too popular with their passengers if they did every run with the same urgency as is necessary for transport of a donor organ ;)

Thank you for the excuse - I've now spent some time trawling youtube :)

Direct comparisons aren't easy. The French 'style' videos are mainly longer runs on motorways, but where they are crossing junctions it gets closer to the SEG style.

It's worth noting that the French are typically using just two bikes - that wouldn't work with the UK/SEG 'leap frog' method (and Dutch) of parking to block a junction then passing the convoy - they'd run out of bike (just the one 'courier') very quickly.

One other thought: French motorcyclists acknowledge drivers moving over to make room by giving a leg 'waggle', so perhaps drivers are not quite so surprised by the actions of the police (although see the African video!).

Dublin 'leap frog'

Dutch ditto

And to end, if you thought that the OP video was disconcerting ...

I thought the Netherlands police did a good job...not sure about the Paris video...riding on the pavements very close to buildings and some pedestrians.
Oh and cancelling the siren seemed a bit random.
Did they get their man?
