Appalling standard of road maintenance
Appalling standard of road maintenance
there is only the road, nothing but the road ...
Re: Appalling standard of road maintenance
It's really weird, and I suspect nothing to do with maintenance. It seems to be some odd movement or slippage of subsoil. One just hopes things like that don't happen when you are actually driving on it. I suppose the ultimate lesson is "always expect the unexpected"

Does that fall under, "circumstances that may reasonably be expected to develop"?

That particular piece of road is unusually subject to large subsidence. It's been patched over the years but the time has come when the underlying soil and land structures just have given way.

It's almost as if throwing more and more weight on something that is subsiding won't actually help. Quite a lot of fenland roads have a similar problem.

I clicked on the link but stopped as soon as I saw it was from a certain rag of a paper that I wouldn't believe a word printed in.

Perfectly true in this case. Google "Lyneham Banks". The road runs down the side of the escarpment that forms the Eastern edge of the Dauntsey Vale. Hence it keeps falling further down the hill.

Apologies, but the page you requested could not be found.
Anyone else view it ok?
Your 'standard' is how you drive alone, not how you drive during a test.
