Roundabouts

Postby Triquet » Thu Sep 23, 2021 5:38 pm

I recall there was a thread about roundabouts and the vagaries of markings. Here are some jolly roundabout markings on the promenade Douglas Isle of Man, which are apparently causing some perplexity ...

It doesn't have a white dot in the middle.

'Shared space' principles?
Your 'standard' is how you drive alone, not how you drive during a test.

I wonder if those markings are even legal. Doesn't TSRGD specify what can or cannot be used for road markings? I'll bet it's not in there.

Yes. And no.

When TfL built their Cycle Superhighways, they intended to paint just a blue line to follow. However, that would have qualified as an unauthorised road marking, so hence the full lane width blue. A different colour road surface was fine.

The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions are UK Statutory Instruments.

But can the Isle of Man do their own thing?

Where I live a blue line alongside a road indicates where fibre cables are buried.

Yes. They will have an equivalent i'm sure but the UK parliament generally doesn't legislate for the Isle of Mann.
