Advanced driving/Riding in the future?

So with ever lower speed limits, councils discouraging driving and auto driving features on cars...where does that leave Advanced Driving in say 20 years time?

Is it to become a technique for an even smaller number who drive 'classic' cars for 'fun' slowly at weekends or is even that wishful thinking? :car:

/thread drift - in discussion over the weekend, will autonomous cars need speed limits? If they can't work out when they need to drive under it, they're useless. If they can, then why do they need an artificial upper limit? Because presumably they're also not fallible, that's the whole point.

So maybe the future has no limits and the only folk left driving are the real enthusiasts and we'll find automous cars are cooperative when you overtake them, don't close up gaps in queues etc etc?

Advanced driving as it is now is becoming less and less relevant or inviting to the majority of drivers.

I don't think you'll find anyone who is involved in developing them would claim infallible.

Also, vehicles get designed for occupant survival. A 5* Ncap pass now means that you would have a good chance of walking away from many crashes. Push up to unlimited speeds, then survival would be compromised.

It will be down to amateur hackers to see how much better you can make your auto car than others ;) :)
