Hi

DVSA have launched a new website offering basic advice to drivers and riders. https://www.safedrivingforlife.info/advice/

Amused by this under the bikes section
Coasting
Avoid coasting: this is when your motorbike is moving but it’s not being driven by the engine – either when the clutch pedal is held in or the gear lever is in neutral. If your motorbike is coasting, you have less control over it; doing this while you’re travelling downhill will mean you’ll quickly pick up speed, and you’ll then need to brake harder than should have been necessary.

That used to be an unofficial sport in the USA :)

Mmm they wouldn't have liked my original two-stroke Saab, but that was a long time ago.

Re their coasting advice.

Perhaps it was for an old Indian or Harley D with a suicide clutch. ;)

Or a bike with a rough gearbox and many false neutrals? But definitely not my old Guzzi, where the neutral light would often come on to show that you were in

first.

Long time since I was a motorcyclist but I'm sure there was never a "clutch pedal" on any 'bikes I had.

Almost as good as the previous edition of Motorcycle road craft. In the first print it stated something along the lines of When approaching a junction in fog wind down your window to hear traffic.

I did wonder if I should include a link. :)

I then did wonder whether I should go to car advice and see if "how to use tiller steering" was covered. :)
