Run flat tyres

Postby angus » Tue Oct 13, 2020 2:38 pm

Question for people who have run flat tyres: Do you find you get more punctures than you did before run flats or other cars in the family with normal tyres?

SWMBO has had her Mini for about 3 years and seems to get a puncture every 4-6 months. I can't remember the last time I got a puncture although we do similar mileages

Do you drive in the same places? Do you avoid areas where the detritus of modern roads collects? i.e. close to the kerb, over hatched areas etc.
It may not be that the tyres are any more or less puncture resistant but that the opportunities to "pick up a nail" are different?

Pressures?

Or do you get the job of doing all the wheels in the household like me?

Never in 10 years have we had a puncture. Nor in my new car. Must be where you drive. Aren't they basically ordinary tyres in that respect. I thought they were just different enough not to fall off the rim somehow.

RFT have stronger sidewalls but I think the contact area is pretty much the same.

no difference here - rarely get punctures full stop.

I've had numerous brands too (some miles better ride wise than other)
