Close Protection for some Ministers .
DPG Protection for Government, Embassies, Scotland Yard etc
So an incident at say the Foreign Office is often first attended by the local police who provide a holding operation until an Inspector from the DPG arrives to take over the incident.
DPG Bikes, Cars and Vans are maroon in colour and it is an armed unit.
Once had an incident of an unauthorised parked car at the Attorney Generals Office which required me to seek their assistance. DPG turned up in 3 maroon vans with police armed to to teeth pouring out of them and surrounding the building. Quite dramatic.
Visit such as an American President involved having to co-ordinate with several specialist units including the FBI who always seemed to have their way of doing things and we had ours so it could get interesting.
