Shame they weren't full of concrete....

I wonder why the cameras didn't pick up the barrels?

Re: Latest bit of idiocy
Or perhaps it did pick up the barrels, but if it only did so once it was committed past the heavy, hitting them was its best option?

Needs to learn to look further ahead then
(whenever I've seen demos of ADAS video systems it's always bothered me that the cameras don't identify things very far from the vehicle they are in - even on the crappy resolution systems used, I can usually see stuff it's not identifying).
Re: Latest bit of idiocy
My point exactly. If that was what went wrong!

I don't know what systems exactly are fitted to that car, or what they are supposed to achieve.
However, my understanding is that the braking systems on many vehicles will only work on static objects up to about 20mph and to support adaptive cruise control.
For higher speed braking, they might apply the brakes to reduce impact speed only.
Your 'standard' is how you drive alone, not how you drive during a test.

Here's another video on Youtube showing the Tesla entirely fails to see those big barrels...

Re: Latest bit of idiocy
Tesla's aren't fitted with LIDAR and rely on radar and cameras to see distant objects as I understand it. I believe stationary objects are filtered out of the radar results because there are too many false positives, so you end up with a system that can't really see things that aren't moving.
