Personally, I like them. LEDs are either on or off, there isn't the intermediate 'glow' stage of incandescents so, potentially, if someone glances at the 'off' point, they might miss the flash.

However, wouldn't it make sense when on as 'hazards' to have different flash pattern? For those occasions when you can only see one side eg vehicle stopped in a row of vehicles - hazards or signalling to pull out?

Tricky. A faster than normal flashing rate is already reserved. The question, then, is how long do you have to observe interrupted in order to spot a third pattern.

How about a simple double-strike --- gap --- double-strike pattern?

Part of my work involves conspicuity. A common thought process is "Wow - this would be great - would make us much safer!" but totally overlooking that something must be understood to be of any benefit. Simply having novelty isn't sufficient
