It's cute that she thinks she will get away with it for "emergencies" or being "very concerned about one of her children".

Speeding in 30s is so wide spread it is normal. Out on the motorcycle either socially or observing, sticking to 30 (a real one!) through the villages will nearly always get you tailgated. :(

As someone who promoted safety she should be acutely aware of the limits being imposed. I hope the court's decision reflects this.

Ive been pleasantly surprised over the last 2 months. Ive driven half a dozen times to Covent Garden and a third of the journey is in a 20 limit the rest 30 limit. Keeping to these limits posed no problems as every one was acknowledging the limits. Made for quite a relaxing drive particularly for the late night journey home.

Most cars these days have speed limiters fitted and some have a nice little display of the current limit - two quick clicks and it can be set.
Given the greater priority now (at last) being given to more vulnerable road users the lady should have had more sense.
Having said that and even with the technology we can all make mistakes, once or twice!

2 of the offences include tickets for 35mph. I thought most forces didn't bother for 10%+2? Or are they getting stricter? (I know "10%+2" has never been formal advice but it did seem like common practice).

Perhaps with a following police car one would get away with 35, they being able to assess the traffic situation and judge if 35 was safe or not. With those "safety cameras" sorry "speed cameras" 35 is probably looked at by someone just seeing the figures without the circumstances being taken into account.

Anyway how can you miss the Bl...y things, unless of course they were mobile units. Don't get me wrong 30 quite a lot of the time is too much, dependent on traffic and the situation. 38 - 40 would be pulled by following car no doubt, and rightly so. :racing:

I thought that was the threshold for prosecution, ie "at 34 you're probably ok, 35 you're nicked".

I knew someone who was done for 41 in a 40.

Local camera van crew actually did him for 'in a 30'. He went 'not guilty', proved it was actually a 40 limit, and showed his gps trace (quite a few years ago, he was off geocaching).

Magistrates said yep 40. But as you've told us '41', have a conviction.

People like that deserve to have trackers fitted to their own vehicles and be prosecuted for the slightest infringement. :soap:

Yes. I once had the privilege of attending a speed awareness course (delivered by a gentleman who has long been an acquaintance through advanced driving circles - I was teacher's pet).

My crime was 79 on a National DC - the documentation showed that 79 being 10% plus 2 was the threshold for action.
