The other thing that irritates is the increase in the range of tools needed to do anything to a modern car. Time was a small socket set, a few screwdrivers and big hammer sufficed (plus a torque wrench if you were posh), but now all sorts of weird things are needed. Plus a PhD in electronic engineering.

My old(ish) car needs a mix of imperial (chassis, brakes) and metric (engine)

I use a mixture of WW, BSF, AF and BA on our 1958 Land Rover 107" Station Wagons.

I've been pondering the wisdom of chucking in my collection of 3 fun, relatively simple and fastish old cars. Trouble is, whether it's electric, hybrid or petrol, about the only cars I fancy are Lambos... I can't abide the styling of modern 'reasonable' cars. I can't abide the shite in the cockpit: who for example wants to change the colour of his bloody dashboard lighting in a car where the handbrake is a button with zero sensivity? I don't want an auto gearbox. I don't want computers interfering. I don't even want power steering if I'm being totally honest. I'd like to feel for myself what is going on at the corners. Talking of which, my Alfetta GTV6 continues to tell me exactly how much front grip I've got left whilst continuing to remind me that cars are for driving.... Not some computer game.
So if I did get rid of everything, what should I get instead? I can't afford things like P1's, Veyron's and whatnots! Couldn't drive 'em even if I could...
