Re: Extra distraction or not?
Have built in touch screens in my car and I much prefer physical buttons much easier to find without looking.. These add on screens I often see positioned in front of the driver blocking a large area of their forward vision.

Re: Extra distraction or not?
Trip away a few days last week, other half driving in her 2017 Polo. As usual I was late out the door, suddenly remembering one critical thing after another - feed the cat if we have one (we don’t), turn off lights, lock all windows, etc etc. OH, sat patiently in driveway, used the time usefully, setting up her iPhone for the car’s built in Carplay directions to our destination.
Having finally remembered to tie both my shoelaces I settled in passenger seat and off we went, with a reassuring map of our street on the car’s LCD. A female voice said ‘turn left’, then a male voice said similar. Then both voices, almost but not quite in unison said, “turn right”. She’d managed to fire up Google and Apple Siri directions at same time.
Easily solved with me as passenger, my job to sort it out. But on her own, what a temptation there would have been to focus on the tech rather than the road?
