Re: Pedestrians - victim or cause?
I don't agree, not at all, and find our general treatment of the most vulnerable on the roads a national disgrace. In fact so much so that I feel compelled to warn visitors that many UK drivers would 'take the boots off you rather than slow down'. If the RTA needs changing then so be it as it is lon...

Re: Pedestrians - victim or cause?
Perhaps it is about time that those who compose the Highway Code changed the vernacular. Many of our neighbouring countries did this years ago but we have not. In fact I seem to remember the 70s/80s Highway Code (with regard to zebra crossings) stated that the wheeled road user must 'see and give wa...

Re: Pedestrians - victim or cause?
In the UK we provide very few places where the wheeled road user and pedestrians can assume people may be crossing. We have invested heavily in a very few and expensive controlled crossings, but otherwise ignored the simple basics of priority. In those places where the pedestrian has priority it is ...

Re: Best driving roads - based on Maths
Lurching back to reality the A271/272 on a very quiet day are probably my favourites in the MX5.
There's an awful lot of roads in Spain and France as well.
I don't feel the need to have Avis advise me; the interpretation of 'driving' seems to be at odds.

Re: Best driving roads - based on Maths
I think I'd rather judge a good driving road through the seat of my pants.

'new system, which allows vehicles to get on and off the highway and change lanes without driver input'
This is happening already and is seen on a daily basis in and around Sussex.

Re: Driver behaviour when moving for emergency services.
It's this automatic policing thing - you cross a certain line irrespective of the circumstances and a train of accusations and events are set in course. There is no leeway and an innocent person can be caught up with all the inconvenience and expense that ensues. Perhaps advice on this should be mor...

Re: Speed differentials
I always feel uneasy in a three abreast situation and am generally looking for a way out as soon as I can. I do appreciate however that on some roads at certain times it is not always possible. I think that mentally I have translated it more into a zone of safety around my vehicle; doing my best to ...

Re: Anyone resigning from IAM now?
I wonder if Sarah Sillars used the 2014 road casualty figures as a basis for the comment. If that is the case she has, in my opinion, not read the report fully.
I left the IAM many years ago so resigning is not relevant. I can say that I wouldn't consider joining the organisation again.
