Re: Practice routes

Different times of year, different weather, potholes in different places, different walkers, cyclists, horse riders in different places. How can I not drive to what I see? Last time was fresh and packed snow, salted on some roads so cold brown slush and water, first time I can remember it being like...

Re: Practice routes

Yes, stamina (concentration, observation) is (are) a problem when there are long gaps between proper driving :( I'm planning to do the same route a few times to rebuild those, making a note of how far I go before I realise I'm displaying signs of tiredness. Is this a route you've used previously / r...

Practice routes

I don't remember practice routes being discussed all that much, either here or in the previous forum, but they seem to be one thing we could do while maintaining good social distancing, prevailing stay-at-home rules permitting. The routes I make up tend to be rural and NSL; I don't find urban drivin...

Re: Blimey it's quiet...

I have an extra set of wheels for my Yaris and winter tyres. The only worry about having winter tyres is that with the limited winters we get now get they don’t get as much use as I would like and consequently they get old before they wear out. Have you considered all season tyres instead of the wi...

Re: Corner lines - thoughts?

I'll be a bit controversial though and say that the majority of offsiding (as opposed to straightening) I see riders do is often flamboyant, 'look at me', actions and within the posted limits of little benefit. I expect it's different for cars but I find that some drivers use the offside to show to...

Re: Corner lines - thoughts?

Can't see the road surface well enough but, possibly, if it undulates to the n/s (or the edges, in the way of Fen roads) the rider might wish to avoid that.

Re: Back-up & Restore - but what to where?

If it were simply backing up and restoring user data, photos, and so on, it should be fairly straight-forward, but then you mentioned 'software & settings' and there are many issues to consider. In broad terms, it's much simpler to reinstall and reconfigure everything, and then copy the user dat...

Re: What gear is best?

In the early days of autos I would usually activate kickdown on the approach to a bend to get into a lower gear. Definitely not kickdown. As I recall the idea was, on approach to a bend, to lift slightly on the throttle then blip to trigger a downshift, then apply enough throttle to keep it in that...
