Re: 40 mph ... Why?

I assume that when the 'advanced' drivers on here decide what is a safe speed for any piece of road, that they would ignore their own judgement and speed up, if it was obvious that one or more cars behind wish to go faster? I wouldn't hinder them getting past me, and might even encourage them to do...

Re: First fatal accident for self-driving car

When using cruise control I am always ready to disengage it. How different is it when using the Tesla system? Tesla guidance is that you should always be ready to re-take control. Allegedly if you don't [when it asks you to], it then gently slows the car down and steers to the side of the road. The...

Re: First fatal accident for self-driving car

Kind of depressing (although inevitable) that the focus is on the Tesla failing to brake rather than why the truck driver pulled across someone coming towards them

Re: 40 mph ... Why?

Maybe just trying to use least fuel? In which case, bollox to them. They're using up the one things that is truly irreplaceable, and that's the time of everybody stuck behind them. If they aren't in a rush, perhaps they should get the bus. Meanwhile I'm increasingly fed up of tolerance for the inco...

Better still, had we gone into Schengen we wouldn't have had to bother at all for most shorthaul flights

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

From 'joining the euro' thread ... All politically cohesive national systems, whether they be a federal system or a single country, rely on a mechanism of fiscal transfers from its wealthier regions to its poorer regions in order to try and achieve economic, political and social stability. This is ...

Re: EU - should the UK have joined the Euro currency?

with limited room for manoeuvre, would successive governments have been able to rescue the banks and begin to restore the economy to growth? What kind of pain would we have endured? Should we have rescued the banks? Or should we have locked up their chief execs for bringing the world economy to it'...

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

That's the whole point! Your voice is not and cannot be heard by the EU. Further integration will only cement that yet you ask why it is such a bad idea? That is also incorrect. Your voice is - and by implication can be - heard by the EU through our elected representatives. At the European Council,...

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

The reason it is such a bad idea is because it is a union that is being brought about without the consent of the people. We have been brought this far into it without ever being asked if it is what we want. You are quite vociferous that you are unable to have your voice heard in Westminster yet you...

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

Because we can vote Westminster MPs out, we can't alter those in control in the EU. Gah. I'm getting bored of hearing this. It is not a valid argument. I have no chance of having my views represented at westminster since I disagree with both major parties policies - if you live in a "safe"...
