Re: What Happened?

Even in a short drive there will be dozens of situations in which a collision could occur, if yourself or another road user did not take some action. In the confused and, may I say complex, average High Street with all the 'polite?' giving way and stopping and starting; the poor old machine is goin...

Re: Citigo - 300 miles later.

Caterham is a PITA with it's gearing (3600rpm at 60 in 6th  ), but does mean the oil warms up fairly quickly as you haven't got much choice but to use a reasonable amount of revs. So, I thought I'd pay a bit of extra attention this morning on the drive to work. The Caterham doesn't have an o...

Re: What Happened?

The system has been carried over to EASA the European aviation regulator, which is a good thing. I'd imagine that given the amount of car journeys per hour/day it would not be worthwhile to record any but a very small percentage of incidents. There can hardly be a journey any of us take that doesn'...

Re: What Happened?

My father was one of the founders of a system called CHIRP (Confidential Human Factors Incident Reporting Protocol) which was introduced by the RAF to assist with safety. Those who had a close call could use the system to report it without fearing disciplinary action. I believe that some of the bet...

Re: Citigo - 300 miles later.

Perhaps by the time the heater on the MX5 is melting my shoes the oil has warmed up as well. Wouldn't bet on it. And even if the engine has warmed up, the gearbox/diff will take longer. Caterham is a PITA with it's gearing (3600rpm at 60 in 6th  ), but does mean the oil warms up fairly quick...

Re: What Happened?

As for media coverage: I think there should be a bit less emphasis on the human tragedy element of it, and more analysing: The news could host an expert to comment not unlike what they do, for instance, with sports. Next you'll be asking for politicians to work for the interests of their vote...

Good to see they've chosen an appropriate vehicle to deal with the state of the roads

Re: The state of roads.

.... but I think the argument is that they rely on vehicle wheels to roller the chippings into place. Hence the "loose chippings" road signs and low speed requests - they're not there to reduce vehicle damage but to slow vehicles down to roll the bits in and not sweep them away....

Re: The state of roads.

The Toyo tyres on my MX5 pick up these stones a lot. The stones then get chucked out at my wheel arches, and I assume, at anyone else within range. I've honestly never seen roads repaired the way we do here; is it just the UK that does this or is it more widespread (the repair not the gravel :) ) I...
