Re: In search of an automatic
You say your relatives are elderly. I wonder if introducing them to modern technology may be a mistake. It may be hard for them to adjust to it. Would it not be better to buy a 'normal' automatic at a reasonable price and put up with higher road tax. That is the conclusion I am coming to. An older ...

Re: In search of an automatic
Yes I did read that but you can get adaptations to improve getting in and out - a little spinner thing for the seat (not a full blown rotating seat). It's the getting up "from sitting on the ground", not the spinning. He also likes the view sitting higher when driving. CVT is well smooth;...

Re: Dual carriageway Speed
So if street lights=30, what's the speed limit here then? https://goo.gl/maps/u4dzZVq4fa32 NSL Street lights + built up area = 30mph ... but even this at times is hard to decide sometimes on ring roads. Just got to look out for the speed limit signs where the limit changes. I can't think of an inst...

Re: In search of an automatic
How high? And why torque converter? Citroen C3 Picasso or Fiat 500L high. ;) The driver is used to slush boxes with their smoothness and built in creep and kick down. It was on the job sheet I was given. ;) Driving a CVT is not the same. A different technique that many never 'get' or master. Person...

In search of an automatic
I wonder if anyone has some ideas/suggestions for me? Unfortunately an elderly relation was hit from behind at a set off red traffic lights by a big Mercedes van. His little automatic Suzuki Ignis has been written off. Now armed with the small payout from the insurance company, through no fault of h...

Yes, there's a move away from police talk to just vocalising what you are thinking/planning/doing.

Re: GBOL & DSG Gearbox
Press both pedals together in a dual clutch and many will sound a warning and even go into limp home mode until you restart them. If you must use left foot braking you need to be very good at it and only use one pedal at a time (another form of separation).

Re: GBOL & DSG Gearbox
That is brilliant. I'd love to see it close up! But doesn't DSG stand for "dual shaft gearbox"? David DCT - Dual Clutch Transmission - Generic DSG - Direct Shift Gearbox - Audi/VW EDC - Efficient Dual Clutch - Renault PDK - Porsche Doppel Kupplungs - Porche I'm sure there are others. Manu...
