Re: Best features to look for when buying a new car.

I had a good example of overtake assist on Saturday evening; the other car braked, presumably because they hadn't been looking ahead to know if what I was doing was safe. Turned out they weren't wedded to going slower than the limit; they had no trouble in catching me, (I imagine to get my number pl...

Re: Reg Local - How to pass an Advanced Driving Test

He is dead against starting PP with a push. I shall watch later but, even without watching, I feel the urge to say this ;-) The really big question, for systematic steering that primarily uses fixed grip and p-p, (avoiding being drawn into which starts first for this sentence), is how the transitio...

Re: Best features to look for when buying a new car.

I suppose there's two different ways that retrospective view can be used? Internal messages: - "Well, you got that wrong! Bet you'll get it wrong again." - "Ok, I realise what I did, I know what to do differently next time. I remember something I think I heard kfae8959 saying, about ...

Re: Best features to look for when buying a new car.

- Trouble remembering the last few miles driven While I know what you mean, this struck me as funny as I try to leave past things in the past. I've been calling it "dwell time" -- how long I dwell on something instead of focusing on what I'm doing now and what's up ahead. Am finding it's ...

Re: Reg Local - How to pass an Advanced Driving Test

I had trouble with the Google Earth links, had to swap to a different browser  Also, the odd orientation was a bit ... odd! the advanced direction signing is only 150 m before the slip. Clearly the authorities are trying to discourage south-bound vehicles from using the A343, presumably prefer...

Re: Reg Local - How to pass an Advanced Driving Test

at a left turn rather than be in the correct gear they'll feather/slip the clutch as they execute the turn. I was thinking about this today while out on a longer practice drive; it was more than two hours in and I was feeling weary, (or lazy), approaching a tight left, had optimistically assessed I...

Re: Reg Local - How to pass an Advanced Driving Test

With automatics I think of them as a manual car without the clutch. During a practice drive at the weekend my left thigh and ankle started to ache - my driving stamina is abysmal - and I was very tempted to skip using the clutch. I eventually gave in, once, for an easy change, 4th to 3rd after the ...

Re: Reg Local - How to pass an Advanced Driving Test

I meant that hen people move from a manual to an auto they struggle to control the car because they are usually on the gas o on the brake. So for example at a left turn rather than be in the correct gear they'll feather/slip the clutch as they execute the turn. They can't do that in an auto. You me...

Re: Reg Local - How to pass an Advanced Driving Test

I think the reason people struggle with System in an automatic/DCT is they lack any finesse on the accelerator. They cover this up in a manual with the use of the clutch. I'm struggling to work out exactly what you're saying here. I think you're talking about moving from a manual to an auto 'box bu...
