Re: Mobile phones
t does appear strange that the official line is that something is safe and legal, but that they also want to ban it... Hmmm, that's stretching it a bit. Just because the current law hasn't caught up with recent research doesn't mean 'the official line is it's safe and legal'. Like Rolyan, I also ca...

Re: Mobile phones
Not to worry; the government's on it: http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/mobile-phones-cars-block-ban-moving-vehicles-government-technology-a7483871.html I think that article is misleading ;) Alasdair It does appear strange that the official line is that something is safe and ...

Re: Mobile phones
Alasdair - there is certainly some confusion here. The following is what started it all off. It is a deliberate choice answer or make a call. It is up to the driver to make sure it is done in safety or not do it at all. I assume you do not support any speed limits then. Sussex2 appeared to suggest (...

Re: Mobile phones
I'm arguing that if someone says that we don't need laws around mobile use simply because drivers can make a safe decision, then that should apply to other laws as well. We shouldn't need them either because drivers can make a safe decision. Actually I would go with that logic - and I think our law...

Re: Mobile phones
Solid white lines; you accept being told that you cannot cross them, absolute, rather than you being allowed to make a safe decision. Not true, you can (when safe and necessary) cross solid white lines to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if th...

Re: Mobile phones
Alasdair - You've missed my point entirely. There are those who say that mobiles do not need a special law BECAUSE drivers can decide what's safe. Solely that. They are not saying it's safe, or unsafe, or illegal. Simply that we don't need rules and laws about phones as the driver can decide if and...

Re: Mobile phones
You're not comparing like with like. Whether the phone is hand-held or hands-free is irrelevant; it is the conversation that is the problem. If the driver is capable of deciding that it is safe to answer a hands-free call if conditions permit then why is he not free to decide the same for a hand-he...
