Some would say you have paid for all of the road use it.
DC when my speed is appropriate for it to be an advantage I certainly use the outer lanes if it improves the view allows me to continue at a higher speed safely and I am not causing inconvenience to other road users

Re: Off-siding
The last time we discussed this with the ASDM for left hand bends he suggested if you were out there ( eg completed an overtake) and had the view already you could if it was safe stay there, but would be frowned upon if on the approach you moved out to "Gain a view" Also added if it was a ...

Re: Off-siding

Re: New Members.
We offer "Mass Guidance" as the IAM calls it but it is 1-2-1 with an observer on the day. Each associate is allocated a NO as a mentor. The Mentors role is to check all the ride reports ( we submit them electronically as no one could read my writing ;) ) and talk to the associates assigned...

Re: New Members.

Not great if the Observer has ridden to the meeting point waited around for half an hour then rings the associate who says sorry not going out today is cold and ...

Re: Has IAM Roadsmart given up on advanced training?
I stayed on and became an Observer that keeps my skills OK and explaining to associates various aspect of Roadcraft helps expand my understanding. That is partly why I have remained as an observer even if I have not been happy with IAM HQ for a long time I am still learning and hope to continue doin...

Re: Should Associates wear their usual clothing, not hi-viz, for training?
Incidentally, I feel observers shouldn’t recommend wearing a vest willy-nilly – now more of us have airbag jackets. Is there a possibility a vest (depending on its fit) could hamper an airbag from inflating? I don't wear a Yellow high viz vest but as a group we do have observer vests, black with re...
