Re: ADUK - Please Read
Great, thanks. Very nice to be still able to search the old forum. Since the PMs were not copied across, I've just logged into the ADUK forum to export all my saved messages; I found that " Export as CSV (Excel) " was best for importing into a spreadsheet, but there are a couple of other f...

Slippery conditions
When it's frosty and/or sub-zero, I make good use of the traction control system in my car. If I think it's likely to be slippery, I press the traction control button in the centre console. Fortunately it's possible to do this on the move, so I don't need to make a one-time assessment at the start o...

Driving Day / Shropshire / Sat 11th Mar 2017
Announcing a driving day in Shropshire on Saturday 11th March 2017. Each person drives their own car around one of the provided routes, (35-45 miles), with one or two others sitting in to navigate and discuss aspects of the driving as they come up. The hope is that this takes place in a friendly atm...

Re: Mobile phones
no one even gets within 100 light-years of suggesting that small noisy kids should be banned from the back of cars? The kind of ear-piercing shriek that demands instant attention from an adult, normally the driver. When my step-daughter was learning to drive I was pleased to help her practise with ...

Re: IAM RoADAR is a punishment
Strangely I'm very relaxed, calm and take everything in my stride on my bike. In the car I admit I do feel more frustrated/annoyed by what happens on the road around me. I've not fully worked out why. Perhaps because you're in a cage you feel more angsty, less connected, and yet maybe more competit...

Re: used 911 or tuned MX5 ?
I like how the mx5 produced way more reactions than the 911s... That's because MX5s reach a much wider audience. If it were a Porsche, I'd quite like an older 911 - from about '88 on, so including 964s, and up to 993s. The alternative that would bring a smile to my face whenever I drove it would be...

Re: Mobile phones
The reality is that you cannot concentrate on two things at once and if the phone conversation causes you to use your visual cortex to understand a question or formulate a response - something over which you have no control - then using it for something required by the driving task is simply not po...

Re: Lane Discipline
At a recent local IAM group meeting our guest speaker, a former police officer, brought this up. According to him it hasn't been illegal to pass on the left since the Road Traffic Act was revised in 1972. AIUI, the rules explicitly stated that you're allowed to keep up with the traffic in your lane...

Re: Mobile phones
Are there any studies looking at the distraction of using two-way radio while driving? Given it's legal to use hand-held two-way radios while driving, (no requirement for hands-free), is this part of the legislation fact-based? One button, physically connected to the vehicle (doesn't matter if tran...
