Re: Motorcycle airbag jackets
Hi Janet, I forgot you were interested in a leather jacket, and it’s only the Tech-Air Race vest that fits Alpinestars’ leather jackets. Though the same comments apply. Also, the Tech-Air Race can be switched into 'Street' mode, so it uses algorithms designed for road accidents. But if you’re within...

Re: Motorcycle airbag jackets
I was a bit put off some makes where you have to buy a jacket either a special one ... Did you try on a Tech-Air Street vest zipped into a Tech-Air-compatible jacket? This setup is heavy to pick up (good for building your biceps)! But don't be put off. On the bike, I found it completely comfortable...

Re: Motorcycle videos
I'm afraid I disagree about hi-viz in this circumstance. If the A-pillar blocked the view of the bike, how would hi-viz have made any difference? If the rider wasn't hidden from view by the A-pillar, then I might argue that the all-black clothing was more conspicuous than wearing a hi-viz vest on to...

Re: Motorcycle airbag jackets
If it's back protection you're after, then you're better off with an alternative airbag than Dainese. The D-Air Road (in the leather jacket you mentioned) has airbag protection for the chest and collarbones. And it "limits extreme neck movement", according to Dainese - careful wording to s...

Re: Trail Braking - Flavour of the month/year?
Is this because that is their rating or can you just sell stuff as A rated if it has decent armour without it actually being tested? While manufacturers have to pay for any CE test, including the A-rating, there’s no incentive for them to aim high. If your garment passes the A-rating, then you can ...

Re: Motorcycle airbag jackets
Was it this jacket the Carve Master 2 D-Air? While a good fit’s necessary for bike clothing generally, I found fit matters even more for airbag jackets. I tried on a D-Air jacket for size and – despite usually being Dainese-shaped – it wasn’t quite right. Conversely, I’d never got on with Alpinestar...

Re: Trail Braking - Flavour of the month/year?
The problem with the new A/AA/AAA ratings is the clothing industry. From what I gather, some manufacturers were concerned the latest CE regulations would come into force before their kit could achieve (what’s now called) the AA rating. Hence the A rating was born. And it has little to do with price....

Re: Trail Braking - Flavour of the month/year?
So while you can compare jacket A with jacket AA and conclude the AA is the better (protection) one, you have no way of knowing where/what caused the A rating for the lower rated jacket. I agree: one of the many flaws with the shiny new CE standards is that you can’t tell if something barely scrape...

Re: Trail Braking - Flavour of the month/year?
I agree with you about pricing! But if you’ve got good observation :) there’s AA-rated kit that doesn’t cost the earth. Recently, Weiss announced that most if not all its textiles would be AA-rated. Some textile jackets ( New Road and Road Airflow ) from Scott Leathers achieved the original CE Level...
