Re: Smart Motoways
If someone can get past you, you clearly had plenty of space to move over. I strongly disagree with that. I get passed on the left by people who have different views on safe separation from me. Hmm, I reckon if a vehicle is passed on left by something going at no more than the speed limit then ther...

How was this detected in the experiment?
From an exceedingly brief online search, tunnel vision is something you have, rather than something you use.

Re: Drive agnostic POWDERY?
Do you know of a variation of POWDERY etc that covers battery EVs, hydrogen, anything and everything else? Seems to me they all apply. It's a silly acronym, anyway, but you can choose to remember the first two refer to fuel and O ther essential fluids. Know your vehicle, mention what you can check ...

Re: Stopping an auto smoothly
I have sometimes driven in walking boots and, if asked, commented that 'feel' and 'balance' are mostly in the stomach and head. At a training session with an ex-Police coach I mentioned this; he pointed out that officers on duty drive wearing substantial footwear. I think the main point is to be abl...

Re: Stopping an auto smoothly
Searching the old forum is sometimes useful. One hint relayed by 7db from Susie is to manually select a higher gear, not sure how that makes sense but perhaps the relaying source could be consulted. I did discover that this issue has mildly vexed a certain waremark for a very long time ...

Re: Practice routes
My occasional self-challenge is to use commentary consecutively on a frequently traveled route, such as commuting, since each iteration allows me to winnow the irrelevant, find better ways to describe what I see and how that affects my planning, and sometimes to see more that's pertinent.

Re: Practice routes
I always take Associates 'near to home' if I can and it is surprising how many deteriorate. When I was in my early twenties, long before I got interested in improving my driving in a formal sense, I had a horrid realisation about how embarrassing it would be to have an accident near home. That ment...

Re: Practice routes
For shapes of roads I think surprises are points of learning. Trying to see a road fresh might be a good exercise but if it really were fresh would you always miss the same things, or would it vary each time? I'm a little bit bothered by an analytical approach because it can bring things into the co...

Re: Practice routes
Different times of year, different weather, potholes in different places, different walkers, cyclists, horse riders in different places. How can I not drive to what I see? Last time was fresh and packed snow, salted on some roads so cold brown slush and water, first time I can remember it being like...
