In the 10-20 minutes I drove it, I failed to master the perfectly smooth stop ‘without jolt’, maybe I’d improve with practice. I find the Ateca more difficult than the manual Leon. I’d actually speculate that there’s a fundamental difference in the ‘busy roundabout’ scenario. In a manual car, you raise the revs before making the final commitment to release the clutch. It's steeper hills, both up and down, where our Ateca (7 speed DSC) occasionally struggles. Staying in one lower on long downhills and reluctant to change down on uphills.

It's a low-rent model, no paddles.

the seat has an electronic handbrake, but also has separately an auto brake with hill hold, so when that is turned on (and you can choose) a green handbrake light comes up on the dashboard, the car is held and then you just use the accelerator to drive away - works really well.
