Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

I'm sure there would be lots of problems with a superstate - not least accountability and stopping pork barrel politics.....why do people feel the UK is the /right/ size to represent/govern them? Most leavers I've spoken to believe that the nearer a governing body is, the more able it is to underst...

It worked for the Leave campaign.

I appreciate that you need to believe that.

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

I've seen it in Spain where today, 80 years after the Civil War ended, there are people who will not talk to one another. It is responsible for the virtual silence you get in many public places such as trains and aircraft; you don't open the conversation because you never know where it is going to ...

Re: The EU - Leave or Remain?

If it's as sad as you keep saying, please help by working with us to make it a success. If it's not as sad as you keep saying, please help by working with us to make it a success. Most of the leavers I know were fully aware of the huge changes this may bring, but I can understand why the remainers c...

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

In the future the money that was given to these areas will have to come from somewhere. As has already been mentioned, part of the UK contribution to the EU is where the money comes from. The main difference, post-exit, will be that the UK government will choose how that money is spent, instead of ...

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

some of them voted to bite the hand that has been feeding. I'd be interested to know what proportion of wealth redistribution in the UK is caused by internal versus external mechanisms. My initial feeling is that the amount the UK has sent to the EU and which is then returned to the poorer areas is...

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

Greece has always needed propping up and probably always will. There are areas of the UK, though not states, that are in exactly the same position. Strangely some of them voted to bite the hand that has been feeding. Nowt as queer as folk. Yeah. It's almost as if they've considered a bigger picture...

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

I think it would be a mistake to assume that individuals were wholly for staying in the European Union, or wholly for leaving it. Nearly everyone I've discussed this with has been seen good and bad points for staying, good and bad points for leaving, then made their decision by weighing them up. 10...

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

As an external observer with some understanding of politics: Isn't the reason for splitting ways with the EU the result of the UK just not feeling a part of it? To the simpletons here it would sound like practically everyone who voted to split woke up the next morning and regretted their decision.....

Re: The EU - Leave or Remain?

Wow! Progress. Looks like you've skipped stage 3 and moved straight onto stage 4. At this rate you'll be normal by tomorrow. Nah, I'm at stage 7. I'm going to drink myself into a stupor tonight. :) Or you could man up, accept the democratic vote, try just one little tiny bit to understand those who...
