Re: Breaking wind – your tips on my overtaking scenario

Doesn't much of the perception issue arise when riders are too close behind, whether in the lane or offside? I find myself quite happy when a rider is following behind at a reasonable distance, and can be seen in the centre mirror, and when they are at a reasonable following distance offside, and c...

Re: Motorcycle videos

If he had been bimbling about earlier I wouldn't have noticed so much. As it was he over slowed coming into the 40, like lots of vehicles do, but unlike others he didn't then speed up again to around the limit. If it is safe to do the posted limit, then why not? I know some people are just out for a...

Re: Motorcycle videos

My latest video is a single ride from Ipswich to Orford. Nothing planned. Nothing staged. No commentary. No theme. Just everyday riding for pleasure/enjoyment/mental wellbeing. If you click through to YouTube I have added hyperlink index marks in the description to where I have captioned useful poin...

Re: 3 Stage or 2 Stage Overtake?

The overtaking position is probably the most risky time when riding/driving and therefore you shouldn't be there for long. For clarity, you mean the close follow? Only asking because some people think being offside in actual overtaking position is the most dangerous. Yep, overtaking position is the...

Re: Breaking wind – your tips on my overtaking scenario

You should move and out and then do your final assessment before committing to the overtake. You can abort and return to your lane. If you "fire the gun" from behind the target vehicle you a) stand a good chance of hitting it, b) risk having missed something you can't see from behind the t...

Re: 3 Stage or 2 Stage Overtake?

While I cover 3 stage and 1 stage (momentum or overtaking in the absence of all other hazards) as they are part of Roadcraft/The IAM syllabus, I have regularly proposed that most overtakes are a hybrid of the two. Here's one (bikes) I prepared earlier. YouTube Link The overtaking position is probabl...

Re: New DVSA advice site

Re their coasting advice.

Perhaps it was for an old Indian or Harley D with a suicide clutch. ;)

Re: Breaking wind – your tips on my overtaking scenario

The information changed and you dealt with it.

Not being there the only query would be the amount of space between 1 and 2 and whether it was one of those situations where it was a 2 car overtake or not at all.

Re: Motorcycle videos

You are all welcome to pass. You'll need to break the speed limit though ;) Our 'group' is only ever 5 or 6 at max, and we may be well separated. I don't get the need to stay packed together. We'll be heading to a small tea or coffee shop at some beauty spot. We avoid the big gatherings and 'favouri...
