Peebleshire hits 100 young drivers through IAM

The training usually costs £149 but is offered free in the Borders due to Council funding, one of the first local authorities in Scotland to offer such sponsorship.

seems to be an interesting model that other councils could look at copying...
though not sure if there has been any study on its effectiveness - but presumably can't be harming...

I have never been a big fan, but I didn't think he went off that often.

It's an excellent scheme that has been running for a while. The Borders council website and the Borders IAM website are both pretty confusing on the matter (references to 2015 dates only, £139 & £149 and 2 separate sponsorship schemes) but hopefully that's not putting anyone off further enquiries.

In the Bristol IAM group we also have a similar full refund scheme and have attracted perhaps an unusually high % of young drivers as a result...usually 20 - 50% of our associates on a given course are under 25.

Strange really as the cost shouldn't put people off if they think about it logically. I wish more councils and private sponsors across the UK would do something similar...if that were to happen it's just possible some sort of critical mass would be reached and doing the advanced test would become more 'normal' rather then a minority interest for nerds (like us).

He was actually a touring car driver...

Indeed. Now, if Alasdair had said "banger racing", then I would have accepted the mistake. :)

When I saw 'hits' I wondered what they had done to penalise 100 young drivers, and using the IAM as a means to do so.

OK, as you were. 8-)

And forthright moaning, in which his talent massively outstripped Christian Horner. When he got punted off by Steve Soper in a season decider, I believe you saw a true master at work.
