chloejr31's survey.

Postby WhoseGeneration » Wed Apr 26, 2017 6:36 pm

I looked and as soon as I saw the researcher couldn't spell and therefore hadn't proofread, I didn't want to know.
"Responce".

I would normally have the same attitude.
However, I did choose to complete the survey in this instance, and I didn't notice any other spelling mistakes.

That and "comprising of a series of questions" put me off also.

I wasn't sure that the researcher was approaching the problem the best way and suggested an understanding of saccades, rather than attitude, might better explain some of the accidents involving bike/car at junctions. The often heard comment "I looked but did not see the biker" is often very true. It would probably be a good bet that most road users have no idea of this effect.

A nice video let down by including the fatal crash at the end. The crash was probably due to speed and position rather than the effect being described as the motorcycle was dead ahead.

The problem I see in that video is not saccades, it's the bloody A-pillars!

Ah yes, A pillars.

There's some good, but old, stuff HERE on how a moving car's A pillar can track and completely hide a motorcycle on approach to a RAB/junction.

And the Bike Magazine article mentioned. (PDF)

Oh yes, Safe Speed. Is the site still active? There seems to have been no activity since 2010.

The cars A pillars can actualy conceal another car, or at least the ones on my 2009 Fiesta can.

Not really - Paul Smith, the driving force behind Safe Speed died about 10 years ago. His partner tried to continue his work, but couldn't stand up to the likes of brake as Paul did
