2nd Insurance on a vehicle?
2nd Insurance on a vehicle?
Is it possible to insure a vehicle you don't own, which is owned and already insured by the owner?
Your 'standard' is how you drive alone, not how you drive during a test.
Re: 2nd Insurance on a vehicle?
Short term cover policies from, for example, DayInsure or eCar, offer this.
there is only the road, nothing but the road ...
Re: 2nd Insurance on a vehicle?
must be possible, my insurance covers me fully comprehensive on any car - so I am insured to drive your car
insurers will make the decision on which policy(ies) pay out if more than one should cover for the same claim...

Yes. If you are looking to borrow a car for a few days you'll probably find your insurer will add it to your policy fully comp if you, like most people, only have third party cover on other (already insured) vehicles.

Actually it's a case of exploring options for Foal, as SEAT wanted £5K to add him to my policy!

I hear all these horror stories for youngsters and basic cars but we had our daughter (17-18) as a named driver on my wife's Yaris and it added about £100 to a £250 policy. Then when she got a car Direct Line gave her 2 years NCB for the time as a named driver.
We were obviously very lucky.

Re: 2nd Insurance on a vehicle?
Apart from a couple of hours of my time I'll never recover it was quite amusing following the tried and tested advice of 'Always check every year - don't just renew as you'll get ripped off!'. So I spent merry hours filling in all of the online quotememazed.com type sites, then adding all of the extras they forget, and adjusting for the excess etc.
SEAT's cover was cheaper.
However, the nice lady I spoke to a few weeks ago did warn me "We don't specialise in young drivers", then almost managed to keep a straight face when she told me the additional premium and asked "Would you like me to continue?"

That's possibly nearest, ta.
Still, bang goes the idea of Foal taxi collecting me from the pub . . .

If Foal is male, he will be heavily penalised, even though theoretically insurers aren't able to do that any more. It may be better to get him his own car and a policy with a tracker box.
The day insure companies will rarely cover anyone under the age of 25. [ETA - wrong! Sorry - I'll go and wash my mouth out]
Struggling to imagine what these "extras" are that you pay for that allows a car manufacturer to quote more cheaply*. Excess can be a big differentiator though. You just have to weigh the likelihood of a claim against what you consider a reasonable excess for a small claim. E.g. if insurance is £50 cheaper for a £250 excess versus a £150 excess, are you that likely to have a claim in the next 2 years?
* their policy will be underwritten by a standard High Street insurer, anyway.

It's underwritten by Allianz.
Excess was one, I think there were one or two others. But very simply, 'like for like' cover, cheaper (ie 'as advertised') wasn't actually the case and the SEAT cover was eventually cheaper.
