I didn't know that. That's a great shame - a typical example of pike swallowing minnow, to all our disadvantages.

It happened ages ago, so either the bad things have been with us without anyone noticing, or it wasn't so bad after all!

True. I just didn't know. I don't mind Amazon, apart from their rather ridiculous P&P charges for small items.

Just about to start reading this free book from Kevin Williams of Survival Skills.

It's motorcycle based but I'm sure it will be interesting for car drivers as well.

He does indeed. He also mentions an incident with a frozen puddle in a car park :)

Lots of good advice in it.

Yup . . .

The back story is that I'd checked the gravel track from the shed to the road, that was fine, and the roads were dry. I'd phoned the security guard at work to check on the access road and that was ok too.

Actually, that's reminded me of one I have. Is it a large paperback, heavily-illustrated, with a black and white 'smashed glass' design on the cover? If so, yes, very good.

Ah, remembered which AA book (without having to disembowel the cupboard to find it):

AA Book of Driving Emergencies

That’s not the one. The AA Book of Driving was a hardback. Contained some interesting stuff including advanced training such as IAM, RoADA, and BSM’s High Performance Course. :)
