Second pic was only included because of previous comment about there always being a point where the verges meet It was taken to be part of a series about using the sides of the road to determine what the road is doing and where it's going [pedant: yes, I know the road doesn't *actually* do anything or go anywhere, it just lies on the ground waiting for us to misunderstand ]

One case where speed helps.

I'm going to be controversial and say I'm not a huge Sir John fan. The book is OK, but don't be too disappointed. Get one when you spot it cheap.

Put it into context: what else was available in 1988?

Roadcraft, still still bluebook
John Miles, Advanced Driving the Police Way - very good
IAM Advanced Driving, ho-hum

Alternatives to Rc
Tom Topper, Very Advanced Driving. Curates egg of driving thoughts
Keith Code, Twist of the Wrist, racing orientated but 'interpretable' (bikes)

RAC Superdriver was different. It wasn't really a 'technique ' book, but dealt with mental aspects.

I've had several goes at reading CFP, and found it very hard work, but did eventually finish it. It's meant to be THE coaching book, but I'm not sure I'll ever open it again. Superdriver, hmmm, maybe.

While chatting elsewhere about issues of Roadcraft. I went looking through my books for an early copy of MC Roadcraft (I stilll can't find it! Fear I've lent it out). In with various versions of RC were, various IAM books bike/car (HTBABR/D. PYAMT), Keith Code's two books, and the Motorcycle Foundation's Guide to Motorcycling Excellence: Skills, Knowledge and Strategies for Riding Right

... and then I dug out this that I forgot I'd got.



It's certainly an alternative view and he has doesn't have a lot of time for the mainstream Advanced Organisations. It was written in a difernet time when the cars were different and the roads and the way of life. Still some good stuff in there with some dry humour. I'm half way through.

From CFP, read and use the GROW process, don't worry about the rest.

I was sceptical of the 'know nothing' coaching until I saw a NLP practitioner at work.

Blue was a good edition of Roadcraft but as to what else was available, "High-Performance Driving for You", "Prevent or Punish" and "Putting My Foot Down"
