Published in 1980 (I think it was) The AA Book of Driving. Good read from what I can remember.

Actually, that's reminded me of one I have. Is it a large paperback, heavily-illustrated, with a black and white 'smashed glass' design on the cover? If so, yes, very good.
Your 'standard' is how you drive alone, not how you drive during a test.

Blue was a good edition of Roadcraft but as to what else was available, "High-Performance Driving for You", "Prevent or Punish" and "Putting My Foot Down" ;-)

TBH, hadn't seen those then, not seen or heard of them until now.

HPDFY is good - written by Tom Wisdom, [one of the] founder[s] of the HPC course.
Putting My Foot Down is amusing, but not really a reference work
not heard of Prevent or Punish - John, do you mean this?:

Also available on AbeBooks, Amazon, and eBay, mostly cheaper.

Abebooks is the platform of choice usually. Most of the eBay items are on AB as well.

J J Leeming was a highways engineer for Oxfordshire C C until 1946, when he became, IIAC, Chief Highways Engineer for Dorset. His book, Road Accidents Prevent or Punish, has been mentioned by the late Paul Smith on his Safe Speed website with excerpts from the book posted on the website.
