not uncommon - there was a time when in Swindon one of the roads from the magic roundabout was 30mph in one direction and 40mph in the other

Well that's a mess. 40 coming in that way but nowhere else. A483 become NSL with a proper sign. A48 continues for ages with no NSL sign to be seen. NSL implied by joining motorway heading onto M4.
I wonder if those 40 signs were put in when the traffic lights were installed and nobody thought about the exits?

But what about the exit one before the M4, the A48? Clearly should be NSL, but no repeaters for 40, or 40 sign joining RAB, or NSL leaving RAB.
