Speed limit?

Postby crr003 » Mon Nov 13, 2017 10:14 pm

Heading north from 40mph DC - what's the legal speed limit (in mph) for a car (motorcycle) not towing a trailer after the NSL sign?

Well I'd say its 70mph whilst there is a barrier in the road, making it a dual carriageway - End of barrier - single carriageway 60mph.

Actually I've just looked closer and there is a very much "token" carriageway separation.... I'd treat as 60 but bet that's up for debate

The one I've always idly wondered about is whether roundabouts should be 70.

There are two carriageways separated by a physical (albeit flat) median rather than just paint. Therefore 70.
Roundabouts are really only a circular one-way system with a single carriageway. I would argue that they are 60.

I'd agree that heading north it is 70mph as it meets the designation of a dual carriageway.

Regarding RABs, do slip roads immediately become 60 as soon as you leave the DCW or stay 60 until you actually join? No. So I've always treated RABs as 70 if on a dual ... though it's rare you would achieve that.

It seems to be different limits depending on from where you are coming, (according to Google).
there is only the road, nothing but the road ...

This one has NSL DC and 30 and 40 and 50 coming onto an NSL roundabout. Is the roundabout part of a DC, or is it a one way SC?

Well that's a mess. 40 coming in that way but nowhere else. A483 become NSL with a proper sign. A48 continues for ages with no NSL sign to be seen. NSL implied by joining motorway heading onto M4.

I wonder if those 40 signs were put in when the traffic lights were installed and nobody thought about the exits?
