An AD friend wrote to me of her daughter's recent experience thus:

"Driving to IAM standards should prepare us for unexpected occurrences but what about this ... ?

"She is heading down the A1088 towards the A14. She approaches the RAB and gives way to a motorcyclist coming from her right as required. She wants to take the first exit from the RAB but as she moves onto the RAB a vehicle comes the wrong way round the RAB and crashes with the motorcyclist. Fortunately she has left enough room to brake and avoid the resulting crash.

"So should we all be driving into a RAB situation so that if a vehicle comes the wrong way we can act or react accordingly?"

I think the problem with your question is it's rather too general. Good drivers are very aware and have excellent observation...was the errant vehicle in view as she was waiting? Did she leave enough space behind the motorcyclist? Was she giving driving her undivided attention?
