This is the point I was skirting around but never made. If you 'lose' the sprint off the line, what is your plan? Turn right presumably?

Or drop into second place. I can't imagine many cars behind someone in a queue thinking "I'll gun it off from the lights", so if the first chap accelerates very briskly, the odds are he'll leave a decent gap to slot into.

Or buy a faster car

No, just glue some BMW badges to your car which give you the right to cut in ;)

Usually car no 2 isn't as fast, so you can slot in, but it can get difficult...
You might have to explore new routes off to the right and try and pretend it was deliberate :)

It's an art, making mistakes seem genuine.

Trust me, I'm skilled in making mistakes. ;)

(No offence meant to the well meaning Mildreds of the world.)

My wife's Micra often wins that GP.
160SR, few know what it is, trouble is one then has to deal with the consequences of upsetting those who are surprised by a reasonably rapid Micra.

I do it often at a certain roundabout where all the lemmings queue up to go straight on. It's called taking the lane of least resistance for your intended direction, which in this case is right. Once I have gone right on the roundabout I then make a separate manoeuvre in exiting that roundabout at my intended point. The two are separate.
