I may have inadvertently misled you. I wasn't suggesting that phrasing doesn't matter. We're ALL of the opinion that phrasing matters. But I was under the impression that you objected to the specific 3 phase braking.

Clearly not, and I certainly accept the point that to a third party reader, that is not part of the discussion, a poor analogy may give the wrong impression, so care must be taken to avoid this.

And Google too it seems. Who told any of them it was a good idea to design them in the first place? There are better things to invest in in terms of personal transport. Hopefully, just a passing phase.

Mainly, I move people into thinking of starting to apply the brakes, throttle and steering and eventually starting to back off of them somewhere down the line. I also use that way of thinking to maneuvering: You start a maneuver rather than doing it instantanously.

I try to refrain from deliberate "hinting" of the controls (small step input - big step input) but sometimes you do need to get the steering or the brakes on quicker than you would have liked, and in that case such a "gentle-firm" approach does help with smoothness.

Anyhow, nowadays I focus less and less on braking as a car control, and more to braking as a means to attempt and control the behavior of following drivers. Done right (and it's about timing) and you can create a "cover" for yourself from being shunted. So in a sense I subscribe to:
