Braking
Re: Braking
The principal what?
Re: Braking
- at least, unlike the majority you know how much space to leave when braking...
to be honest the best illustration is the exercise I have done (private land with enough space) - of getting to a certain speed and braking - leave a marker, now back at a higher speed and leave a marker - it is a powerful illustration...

Re: Braking
I remember a TV programme from decades ago, which took some folks who wanted to improve their driving. So, out they go with an instructor, who noted the following distances they used at different speeds.
Next exercise was offroad on an airfield. Big wall of cardboard boxes was erected on the runway, with markers on the side to indicate the subjects' following distances.
You know what happened, of course, when those folks were asked to drive at the speed they had on the road and then brake at the marker.
That is the real problem, all the theory and answering questions about braking distances don't mean shit, it's actual experience that will influence people but they don't get that in a safe environment.
Those who need it more than most appear to me to be LGV drivers and I include coach drivers.
Or, perhaps, some simple physics lessons as part of driving instruction.

Your 'standard' is how you drive alone, not how you drive during a test.
