Interesting stuff, particularly as my "daily drive" is Saab 9-5 Aero estate. It's an old school torque convertor 5 speed plus "sport" with paddles for extra play value. It certainly needs to be put into manual in a 30, even more in a 20 or it tends to run on. Out in the real world it needs quite a lot of brake action before corners, but because of the sheer size of the wagon, any transfer of weight onto the front (driven) wheels is hardly noticeable. I also have a manual 9-5 which behaves itself in "normal" manual front wheel drive fashion.
