I'm surprised you say the speed limit is 40, as in the article, the driver said he was starting to accelerate to 60 as he was approaching a 60 limit?

He'll have come up through Rowhedge into a 60 at the top of the village before the crossroads, where it's still 60. The limit changes to 40 after about 100m.

I'm surprised it's on a test route as it's not a nice junction to turn out of. It's likely to become a roundabout and/or the 40 will be extended due to housing development in the village.

Although this junction is in a 30 limit you will notice that there is a double bus stop to the emediate right of St lukes Road. When there are two busses in the bus stop there is absolutely no view to the right when emerging out of St Lukes Road without puting the nose of the car out beyond the busses into heavy traffic. This road is on a test route.

I've always made a point of watching for the second deer as they often travel in pairs.
The first is the one you see, but manages to make it across, the second is the one you have to watch out for!

I was once riding a horse along a forest track when a deer crossed the track ahead of me. Moments later more followed. The ninth, and final, deer crossed under my horses neck.

Sussex seems to be full of deer popping up all over the place.
A friends semi urban garden was munched almost completely (they didn't eat the lavender as it seems they don't care for it) but just about everything else was gone.
Driving around and especially at dawn or dusk needs special care especially in my MX5 - I don't want to be sharing the cabin even with little Mr Muntjack thank you very much!

The comment about watching for the second is very true. I had one go across just ahead of me whilst going up Zig Zag Hill on a lesson a couple of months ago. Sure enough, a second deer followed a couple of seconds later.
