Ford Driving Skills

Postby akirk » Sat Oct 03, 2015 10:06 pm

A very interesting article here from 2014:
https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedi ... ogram.html

Ford Driving Skills for Life Advanced Driving Skills Program Begins Second Decade with New Content, Technology
- Ford Driving Skills for Life begins its second decade in 2014 with evolving and expanding content to help new drivers gain skills not taught in traditional driver’s education programs
- Use of a new drunk driving suit simulates the physical effects alcohol impairment can have on a driver
- Curriculum adds a driving selfies warning to address dangerous new trend of drivers snapping photos of themselves while behind the wheel
- Ford Driving Skills for Life, now operating in more than 15 countries, continues global expansion; program to start in Belgium, Romania, Malaysia and Myanmar

I wasn't aware of the trend for selfies while driving - but I guess it makes sense that people might! Ford have been running this for over 10 years now - set up in 2003 to focus on newly qualified teens in the USA (directly trained over 30,000 teens in 39 states, and across 15 countries) While it could be seen as early stage additional training (maybe like pass plus here), they have a very interesting website here:
https://www.drivingskillsforlife.com/
and a list of what they cover here:
https://www.drivingskillsforlife.com/ab ... -ford-dsfl
while it is focused against specific causes of vehicle crashes so includes how to avoid being rear-ended... (don't drive a google car!), it also covers topics we might be familiar with - how to scan for trouble / contact road patches / vehicle balance / etc.

the invention of "SnapChat" has certainly inflamed the "selfie while driving" craze!!!

I know someone who has observed/trained people for this occasionally, he also does AD training etc.

Anyone know why you have to be over 18 to take part?

Possibly, but it looks like it's off road and I'll wager the cars have dual controls

Yes but might still be something to do with corporate or professional liability insurance..

Ford did rather get their fingers burnt when their fleet cars had any driver insurance. Some rather decent (by Ford standards) cars got written off by managers' 17 year old sons......
