Wikipedia says "The last popular chain drive automobile was the Honda S600 of the 1960s". Personally, I'm amazed they chose to do that at that time. My impression is that chain drive for cars died out, in the main, by the 1930s.

I found the explorer to be a bit too top heavy especially fully loaded

It may feel top heavy if you are used to a boxer engine where all such engined bikes carry their weight low down , but compared to every other adventure bike there's hardly any difference, despite what the GS loving mags will tell you.

It's true that the weight is carried higher than my old GTR, as it is a taller bike, but I wouldn't call it top heavy.

Acksherley ... there have been several bikes with belt for their final drive

I had a Sprint GT before the RT which was OK , I tried a lot of bikes before changing to the RT. But being a little short in the leg the adventurer style of bike was generally too tall for me. The RT left me short in the pocket instead
