After 5 years and 50K miles (bike had nearly 60k on it) I have given in and joined the high up riders
The number of shaft drive bikes (if you don't want a BMW) has been seriously curtailed over the last few years.
So here I am with my new Triumph Explorer 1200 XRT. The coal scuttles have been sold and I'm sourcing some plastic, waterproof, narrower, panniers. The only other addition will be a hugger as it already has heated grips, heated seats, electric screen, cruise control, semi active electronic White Power suspension and a host of riding modes and display options. Maybe a step ladder!
I'll still keep the GTR1400MAN username but in the next few days I'll add a signature to my posts and new profile pic.

Don't let Prince Phillip see it, seems to have about the same amount of kit as a Range Rover but slightly smaller.
Re: New bike :)
Does Sir need a mounting block placed outside of one's garage?
Sounds great! You didn't fancy waiting for the [fugly] Harley 'Pan America'? No? I can completely understand

Your 'standard' is how you drive alone, not how you drive during a test.

Maybe there are steps and a handrail on the side we can’t see?

I used to get to ride a variety of BMWs. Although (being a short@rse) I found the seat height of their equivalent to be a challenge, the really uncomfortable bit was actually the width of the bars!

So why did you go for this bike?

Shaft drive.
Performance - With all the benefits of a multi with all the engine braking of a single/twin.
Ride quality - The active suspension is just superb as well as being from a top manufacturer, White Power.
Weather protection (almost as good as my GTR - legs a little more exposed).
Build quality.
Equipment/features.

'Shaft drive' is a good one. As a mate asked years ago: "would you buy a chain drive car?"
