Mmm. I wonder how you can do this? Does having a space-saver spare help?

That's not a space saver. It's a basic Renault with wheel covers. Remember them? Not all cars have alloys. :)

Looks like a new/young driver. Isn't the A plate in the rear window equivalent to a P plate over here?

StreetView of the place it happened.

Well researched Mike, how did you find the location?

Google is your friend :D

Picture match search, then use Google translate to read a few French newspaper articles.

I've read a few more since my post. The driver was an 18 year old female. The reason for 'exiting the road' is unknown. Looking at it I'd say she was driving to wards the t-junction and just failed to negotiate the long left curve of the road.

I think it's the equivalent of an L-plate, isn't it - A is for "apprenticeur/se"

Wiki says...

After learners pass their driving test, they must display a A-plate (for apprenti), of round shape with white background and red letter, for 3 years (shortened to 2 years for those who took part in the conduite accompagnée program - a program allowing learner to drive with a licensed driver in the passenger seat and starting two years before the minimum driving age). They must follow a different speed limit: 110km/h in the highway (instead of 130km/h) and 80km/h in the national road with road divider (instead of 90km/h)
