perfectly legal, but still felt guilty.

I did a mega journey at the weekend to get car parts. There was trouble on the M42 due to someone clobbering the central reservation earlier in the day so they'd shut off both outside lanes. Sensibly as a managed motorway they had the "hard shoulder" lane open and I was using it as knew eventually outside lane and middle lanes would snarl up as we approached the lane closure.
I think it was junction 3 or 4 but the sign for lane 1 "hard shoulder" changed to being just for the junction only so traffic was heading into the other (static) lanes leaving a good 1/2 mile of clear lane - so I nipped down it, up to the roundabout at the top, and down the slip road the other side....
I did feel a bit guilty though. Perhaps it was because I was in a white van
What is my punishment, 10 hail constables and a bloody mary or something?
