The Netherlands

Just been over to the Netherlands for the first time in several years, and fascinated to find the whole country seems to be interlaced with five-lane motorways, with everybody driving along at exactly 105 kph. It's positively weird, and makes South-East UK seem quite rural. :gear:

Why 105 kph? What are the national speed limits for different classes of road?

It used to be 120 on motorways.

Nothing to do with limits, it seems to be the default motorway speed.

I drove through a bit of Holland yesterday - My memory is pretty good lane discipline and a 120kph speed limit that I was moderately bending to make a certain ferry out of Dunkirk.

I cannot say the lane discipline and general driving was much good when I hit Belgium though! Boy, most of them seem to have a death wish!

A country with a more integrated transport system would be hard to imagine. It really is superb.
