If your analysis is correct then likely as not the Eurozone will tear itself apart. I wonder what will happen to the European Union if or when that happens?

If some newspaper reports are to be believed, the EU will have torn itself apart long before that happens. If the number of countries calling for their own referendums is true then I do not see how the EU project can continue.

Those who pushed for the Euro knew exactly what would happen and this was deliberate to help the project of a Federal Europe.
Yonks ago, on other forums, I was saying that the only way the EU and the Euro could work was by total equalisation of such as taxes, wages and benefits across the EU.
That equalisation is still the aim, except it's not so easy to achieve in the real world. A world where much of the wealth now lies in the East, not the West.

Not adopting the Euro was the only good thing Gordon Brown did for us.

It will depend on the written constitution of the country as to the legal status of a referendum; some countries ban them altogether.
The UK has no written constitution which gives the elected government and enormous amount of freedom in the matter - freedom or irresponsibility depending on your stance with the latest one.
In short referendums are not given away like sweeties.
